All my hats are made 100% from Nutria Rat. It has some same qualities of a beaver hat but more ethical and sustainable. Nutria rats are invasive species to the environment because they destroy native aquatic vegetation, crops, and wetlands. The Nutria's have a high reproductive rate and the lack of population control causes the species to spread. The negative impact Nutria Rats have on the environment is critical.

Beavers are considered engineers to our ecosystem because they create, modify, and maintain habitats and ecosystems. It takes 1 to 10 full grown male beavers to make 1 fur felt hat. To harvest fur from a beaver they must be hunted, killed, and skinned. Beavers have been trapped so much that the species nearly disappeared. The beavers main predators are humans.
